SPARRING

Sparring is the combat part of Taekwon-do. Almost like a game of tag, students battle each other to score as many points as possible in a two minute round. Black Belts compete in TWO 2 minute rounds.

Black Belts will be divided by height at the rings for Short/Tall divisions.

SPAR WARS

Our newest event for Shadow Warriors is Spar Wars – kind of like a ninja version of flag football! The Shadow Warriors use their dodging and blocking skills to keep their opponent from grabbing their “Saber” while trying to use their speed to grab their opponent’s Saber!

Shadow Warrior Obstacle Course & Board Breaking

This amazing event is a race for time! Shadow Warriors race through an epic obstacle course dodging, jumping kicking and punching their way as they race the clock. At the end of the event they also get to break a board!

BONUS BATTLES

This year we are offering TWO additional categories to compete in!

For Colour Belts and Black Belts, you can register for Power Board Breaking ($25). Test your board breaking skills and see where you place based on how many boards you break!  Break the required number of boards and win Gold, Silver or Bronze.

Colour Belts and Black Belts can also compete in the Team Patterns Doubles Competition ($50/ team) – an amazing display of technical precision and choreography.

Separate entry forms must be submitted for these events from Phoenix members.  These are optional events and Phoenix members are not automatically entered.

FAQ’s

Can beginners enter this tournament?

Yes! If you are new to the club, you are still eligible to compete. You will compete against other students your age and your belt and your gender.

What if I don’t have sparring gear?

We suggest placing an order with your admin before April 25 to get yours before the event, OR we will have some loaner gear on site. You must get your own mouthguard and groin cup (boys).

How long is the event?

This will depend on where you fall in the order of belts. We start with the youngest students and lowest belts. This means if you are an adult colour belt, you will compete more toward the middle of the day.

What do I bring?

Clean Dobok, Belt, Sparring Gear, Water, lunch/snacks, Servus place has a restaurant, Booster Juice and Starbucks on site.
