COLOUR BELT PROGRESSION
HOW DO WE PROGRESS FROM WHITE BELT TO BLACK BELT?
At Phoenix, we use a system of Marker Stripes to help instructors and students know what they have mastered within their belt level. Before or after classes, students can ask to ‘test’ for marker stripes. The instructor will observe and give feedback. If the student is proficient in the skills for that particular marker, they will be awarded a stripe on their belt. If they still require more practice, the instructor will give them that feed back and a plan to help practice those skills. The student may try again another day.
WHITE STRIPE: STEP SPARRING
GREY STRIPE: SELF DEFENCE
BROWN STRIPE: BOARD BREAKING (YELLOW AND HIGHER ONLY)
BLACK STRIPE: PATTERNS
RED STRIPE: THEORY
Once a student has all marker stripes, they may sign up for an official belt exam. These exams are scheduled regularly and will be posted in the newsletter and on the location page of this website. To register, ask an instructor or admin.
Exam fee is $60.00 which includes exam, certificate, boards, mini privates, written comments and new belt if required. No fee for a re-test if one is needed.
